What we do

What we do

Elder Law College is a national association of attorneys providing the tools, community and knowledge required for a successful practice in Special Needs and Elder Law.

Elder Law College is made of its members and is therefore an organic community that is constantly growing in its tools and knowledge. With each new answer given on the listserv, each new lecture, each new edit to a form and each new class, the body of available resources grows for all members. We preserve, in searchable format, almost everything that has happened since our founding. These priceless resources would be impossible to reproduce on one’s own and hence the value of membership is profound and lasting.

  • Elder Law College 360° Practice Builder Program: Combined with the included Member Portal, this three and a half-day “boot camp” style seminar teaches attorneys everything they need to know to practice Special Needs and Elder Law the following week. The 360° Program is eligible for CLE and assumes no knowledge of estate planning, special needs and elder law topics. Click here to learn more and to register for the next class.
  • On-Demand Video and Audio Library: Hundreds of hours of education on special needs and elder law topics. This searchable library includes substantive legal issues, how to use key forms, how to determine your fees, solving client fact patterns, marketing, management, and sooooo much more. Members watch the videos or listen to audio on their timeframe or when working on a particular issue.
  • Forms: Members have access to forms used by Elder Law Attorneys for client documents, as well as internal management and client deliverables. Forms are provided in Word format with instructions for members to adapt to their cases. There is no special software required and no additional fee.
  • Document Assembly “Friendly”: Forms are included in Elder Law College membership. For those who prefer document assembly software, members can use solutions from any company. As an inducement to Elder Law College members, Interactive Legal provides a member discount and their leadership have attended Elder Law College meetings and courses.
  • Annual “Upping Your Practice” Meeting: Join some of the biggest brains in Special Needs and Elder Law for our live, in-person annual gathering. Past Annual Meetings have included deep-dives into planning tools, firm finances, fees, dealing with new rules and laws, taxes and more advanced topics than are covered during the 360 Program, but the fan favorites are the free-style ‘whiteboard’ sessions, unplanned moments and just being together in South Florida. The Annual Meeting is a private event open only to sponsors, Members and invited guests.
  • Community: Elder Law College is “collegial” with an emphasis on shared values and mission. All members are required to take an introductory course which includes a focus on “doing well by doing good.” With hundreds of attorneys from throughout the country, Elder Law College has become a homebase for many. Members maintain relationships through scheduled virtual meetings, a private listserv, our in-person Annual Meeting, “pop-up” virtual get-togethers and friendships. We can even lay claim to a marriage!1 A spirit of getting by giving is a mark of Elder law College membership and there is plenty of opportunity for member participation.
  • Member Portal: Upon becoming a member, credentials are given to access the rich content of the Elder Law College Member Portal. The Member portal is the entry for exclusive access to forms, hundreds of hours of on-demand videos, audio ELC talks, a replay (unit by unit) of the 360° course, explanation letters to clients, internal checklists, our member directory, state resources, marketing materials, searchable topic databases and more.
  • Member Certificates and Badges: Graduates of the 360° course receive a Certificate. Members are authorized to use an Elder Law College Member badge on their websites, email signature blocks and other materials and are provided the code.
  • Veteran’s Benefits and Accreditation: Elder Law College teaches VA benefits from the basics in the 360° Course all the way through ongoing accreditation.

1 Elder Law College members are inherently attractive people, but Elder Law College cannot and does not guarantee marriage.

Principal and Lead Instructor Scott Solkoff is a member of the above assocations.
